The Media Matrix and the Livestream Preview

Lately I’ve been getting ready to run my own social media a bit, for example by starting interactive livestreams. Here I’m gathering my related accounts in one place (updated at any time), and welcome everyone to follow along. Personal blog homepage yilinhut.net The personal blog I’ve been writing since 2005 and updating fairly often (or occasionally); I try to post all my articles there whenever possible. Huawendao cn.style A personal commercial website I recently launched (Singapore), supporting paid commissioned writing and paid consultations; in the future I’ll also put some cultural souvenirs up for sale. Tianyu ARTECH tianyu.art A tech-and-art studio co-founded with Shen Cong (Hong Kong), maintained by Shen…

    Suixuan Is Moving

I’m in the process of moving the site from Alibaba Cloud to Amazon AWS. There’s no need to go into the reasons; AWS is very easy to use, so let’s try it first. At present, I’ve already copied the old site yilinhut.com to the new site yilinhut.net . Comments on the old site are suspended; the new site is working normally. I will eventually point yilinhut.com to the new site as well, but for now there still needs to be a period of handover. For example, I still need to look into how to set up the email server, how to handle domain name resolution, and so on. So for…

    Blog Update Basically Complete

Finally, I’ve managed to tinker everything into place. The main changes were a new blog theme and a complete overhaul of the category structure—quite a fresh new look, wouldn’t you say? As for the category structure, I have completely abandoned the old “Thought-History-Epic” system, and greatly reduced the number of categories as well. The new system is mainly organized by genre, and only under “Essay” have I further divided things into several major thematic categories. When designing the category structure, I no longer thought in terms of abstract logical coherence, but instead considered when readers would actually need to click into a category. Generally speaking, readers who follow my blog…

    The Blog Is Being Redesigned

First, I’m starting with the blog theme and have resolved to change the old theme. Enable the CommentPress annotation theme (in the end I didn’t use this plugin; I used Inline Comments). While I’m tuning the new theme, the blog may often act up…… Next, I’ll redesign the category structure.

I Removed Many Registered Users from the Blog and Temporarily Closed Registration

Due to the excessive number of spam users, I have temporarily closed registration and cleaned out a large batch of registered users, keeping only some of the earliest registrants. Inevitably, a few innocent users have been caught in the sweep. But at present I have not enabled the forum function, and the only use for registered users is to subscribe to email updates; this function can be handled just as well through Subscriber2 without requiring registration. If any friends were mistakenly deleted, you can enter your Email on the right to resubscribe. Once I’ve gotten through this busy spell and settled my faculty appointment, I will give the blog a…

I cleaned up many registered users on the blog and temporarily disabled the registration function

Because there are too many spam users, I have temporarily closed registration and cleared out a large number of registered users, keeping only some of the earliest registrants. Inevitably, there may have been a few innocent casualties. But at present I have not enabled the forum function, and the only use of registered users is to subscribe by email. This function can still be used without registering, by means of Subscriber2. If anyone was mistakenly deleted, you can enter your Email on the right to resubscribe. Once I get through this busy spell and settle my faculty appointment, I will give the blog a comprehensive redesign, with major changes to…

    On CC Licenses

//This piece was commissioned by 8btc. The Bitcoin community is naturally inclined toward the spirit of free software, so it ought to be easier to accept the CC licenses. But copyright awareness in China is generally rather weak, and CC licenses are even less familiar, so plagiarism occurs frequently. Even places like 8btc that have brought up CC licenses still lack respect for them within the community. So some popular explanation is indeed necessary. For the moment it is hard to expect CC licenses to have legal force, but in the long run they are beneficial for fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration in the industry, as well…

    Updated the Blog Email Address

After switching to the Aliyun server, besides setting up the blog, I also took the opportunity to set up my own mail server. I used the iRedMail suite, which bundles and installs the whole package, including smtp, pop3, imap, SSL encryption, and webmail, making it quite convenient. Given Gmail’s increasingly difficult situation in China, but since I don’t want to switch to some domestic website’s email service, using a mail service I run myself may be a good choice. Of course Gmail has its irreplaceable advantage—search—so my own mailbox will not replace Gmail for the time being; it will only serve as an auxiliary tool to some extent. At present,…

    Blog hosting moved to Aliyun~

I had been using Huaxia Mingwang’s shared hosting all along, and it had been almost two years. The cheapest plan was only a little over one hundred yuan a year. After a year, I upgraded to a somewhat better one, buying it through an agent for a little over two hundred yuan a year, and I ended up purchasing three years at once. Huaxia Mingwang’s hosting had plenty of problems, but basically they were still tolerable. Most of the time the site wouldn’t go down outright, though there were plenty of minor glitches. In short, I just kept enduring and enduring until now. But a couple of days ago there…
