In discussion class, Liu Ping asked me to recommend books related to environmental ethics or eco-socialist thought, so I整理了一下 and am posting it here. In 2005, when I was a freshman, a number of courses in environmental ethics and environmental philosophy happened to be offered at the same time. I took three or five of them in one go, and then put effort into the papers as a whole too (when I submitted them I explained the situation of “multiple submissions”). So which is it? Obviously, the most “scientific” answer is: we don’t know! This is not like a hypothesis in physics, where we can design an experiment with controlled variables—holding all the other variables constant and looking separately at how things develop with and without the Three Gorges….

Old notes: At about 12:30 a.m. on July 26, a mudflow disaster occurred at the construction site of a hydropower station on the Migu River in Migu Village, Pula Di Township, Gongshan County, killing 11 people. The Ministry of Water Resources of China then issued a special emergency notice, requiring that safety measures for flood season be effectively strengthened at all water conservancy and hydropower projects under construction. On August 18, a mudflow suddenly struck Pula Township, Gongshan County, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, and the village was suspected to have suffered a catastrophe of total destruction.
